I Two nights Prince Albert

You will be met by your host (and owner of Saxe Coburg lodge where you will stay) on arrival at Prince Albert Road station from where you will journey on to the charming and tranquil town of Prince Albert at the foot of the awesome Swartberg Pass in the Karoo.  Enjoy a tour of the town with its beautifully preserved Cape Dutch and Victorian architecture and sample the home grown olives, apricots, cheeses and fantastic weavery - a totally breathtaking experience.  Journey back over the breathtaking Swartberg Pass to Outshoorn (a visit to the Cango Caves en route is optional).  The scenic return journey back to Cape Town from Outshoorn is either by luxury bus (daily) or night train (Sundays only - making this package 3 nights).

Packages Include

 

First class return train journey on the Trans Karoo Express - travelling in a compartment or coupe

  • Packages A,F,G & H - from Cape Town to Wolsely (in Breede River Valley) a two and a half hour train journey each way - meandering through the stunning winelands

  • Package C - from Cape Town to Matjiesfontein (in the Central Karoo) a five and a half hour train journey each way - sit back, relax and journey further on through the breathtaking Hex River Valley

  • Package I - from Cape Town to Prince Albert (in the central Karoo) - a seven hour train journey (one way) - venturing further into the Karoo from Matjiesfontein.  Return journey by bus along the coastal route to Cape Town (dep Outshoorn: 1130 am arr Cape Town: 1830 pm)  The night train deports from Outshoorn at 1740 pm (Sundays only) arriving in Cape Town the next morning at 0830 (waiter service is available on the train).

Bed(en suite), full breakfast and evening meal

  • Packages exclude lunch and drinks - a lunch stop at one of the best local restaurants will be organised for packages A, F, G and H after arrival at Wolsely station - lunch can be taken on the train package C outbound journey and on the return train journey for all packages in BJ's buffet car

Information

 

  • The train runs seven days a week.  Tickets are collected from the security manager at platform 24 security boom inside Cape Town station at 0845

  • The train departs at 0920 from Cape Town station (for all packages) and arrives in Wolsely station at 1155 - (packages A, F, G & H) and Matjiesfontein at 1446 (package C)

  • The train departs the following day from Wolsely station at 1130 (packages A, F & H) and from Matjiesfontein at 0830 (package C) arriving back in Cape Town station at 1415, for all packages (except G which arrives in Cape Town by road in the evening)

  • It is advisable to give a minimum of 72 hours notice when making a booking in order to avoid disappointment.  A deposit of 50% is compulsory in order to secure the train and accommodation once the booking has been confirmed.

 

We will require the following information from you;

  • The names and ages of all persons intending to travel

  • Your choice of package and duration of stay

  • (or you could choose a combination of 1 night packages (ie A for one night and C for one night.  Please enquire further for prices if you wish to do this)

  • Passengers are met and dropped off at Wolsely station by mini bus

Overnight price includes

  • 1st class return train journey on the Trans Karoo Express
  • All road transport from pick up point to drop off point at Wolsely station - incorporating a local tour to experience some of the many attractions of the stunning valley, to include; wine and olive tasting, historic Church Street/museums; craft shops and pottery
  • Overnight accommodation is at The Duck Pond" guest farm in your own fully equipped chalet, or in a luxury "bush tent" at Tulbagh's game resort
  • There will be an evening braai at the farm or guests will eat out at a village restaurant consisting of a main meal and desert (depending on the weather)
