"Hot, Damn Hot!" Tulbagh's stunning mountain amphitheatre turned into a sizzling hot cauldron during the 1999 crush.  But winemaker Michael Krone, whose family has farmed in this valley since 1720, knows its climatic nuances and managed to conjure a charming, streamlined range despite the sweltering conditions.  "Quality sells" is the mantra here, and to ensure the standard of packaging matches the contents, the labels are being replaced with stylish new designs featuring Tulbagh's famous architectural treasure, Church Street. John Platter, South African Wines, 2000

In this fertile valley known as "Het Land van Waveren" lies South Africa's oldest co-operative wine cellar.

Tulbagh Co-operative Winery has been producing quality wines since 1906.  Situated in the picturesque and rich in history hamlet of Drostdy, the winery can be found on the WInterhoek road leading out of Tulbagh.

Our winemaker, Michael Krone, is a young man from this valley.  As a third generation winemaker, he has come to respect the traditions, and learn the secrets, involved in the making of fine wines.  But he is also innovative, creative and refreshing in his approach to wine.

Whether it be the soft and easy drinking red, or the fresh and piquant dry whites, his choice guarantees a fine wine of outstanding value.

A visit to our cellar will provide a wide choice of such wines.
